Troll Avoidance: Repeat the First Lesson

Journal Entry: Wed May 8, 2013, 2:59 AM

My Commission Tracking Journal: fav.me/d4lk5fs

I find it hilarious that so many people forget the first rule of troll avoidance. Here it is again for those of you who missed it the first time.

Step One: Shut up.

Its that simple. Given our current state of shitty social media. From youtube to DA, all it takes is to not respond. Eventually the troll gives up and moves on. Self-reinforcement is the key, and without the ability to track multiple conversations without losing your place and therefore requiring a lot of work bookmarking parent threads, its damn hard to find where one rant started and another one disappeared. Have you ever noticed on youtube, that it doesn't track more than one reply at a time? Or DA's comment non-tracking where if you don't hear back from someone its nearly impossible to find out where that comment was posted from and what's going on in other forks of that reply chain?

Step Two: Don't block.

People don't like being locked out. So what gives a person more incentive to go on the offensive? BAN LISTS! Anyone who hasn't figured this out is a complete moron. Yeah, pardon me while I go hop on TOR and pretend I'm in China as a different user account. If you think trolls don't do this, then welcome to the Internet, enjoy your stay. The more you ban, the angrier they get. See step one.

I still find it pitiful when someone makes NUMEROUS accounts for the sake of block-evasion, and I also find some "trolls" take it way too far and go right into cyberbullying. But hey, what does my opinion matter?

Your opinion matters to you. Which is the person that matters. You can find it pitiful and stupid, and I'd agree to a point. The point I'm making however, is that blocking doesn't work. A rabid troll will not stop until he or she stops him or herself. The only thing you can do is stop feeding emotions back at the troll. The troll will eventually run out of fuel, get bored, and move on. Just don't forget that like gas stations, bookmarks exist for a reason. Sometimes you just want to see what stupid shit someone has to say.

I know all too well how that works. At least you seem sincere in your advice.
